Dallas, Texas 05/20/2014 (FINANCIALSTRENDS) – Albuquerque will now lose 11 Southwest Airlines Co (NYSE:LUV) flights daily starting 2014 November due to the changes in schedules said the airline on Monday. The total number of flights in & out of Albuquerque International Sunport will now be reduced to 34 in Nov from the 45 that today, said Southwest. The airline also said it is not now dropping any of the regular destinations to & from Sunport. As per the information that provided by LUV, between May & November, this airline will also axe 1 flight to Baltimore, 3 flights to Dallas, 2 flights to Phoenix and 2 flights to Seattle, 2 flights out to Las Vegas & 1 to San Diego.
Not direct to Seattle
When these flights finally end, there will not be any direct LUV flights between Albuquerque & Seattle. Daniel Jiron , the Sunport spokesman said that 6 of those particular lost flights are all seasonal and 5 are the long-term reductions. He also said that these reductions were not as much as they had expected. many people had expected it be much worse than that. they do see that there is s drop in frequency however, there have been no destination losses, said Jiron. Recently they have landed 2 airlines, Jet Blue & Alaska Airlines & this airport is always on the lookout to line up more airlines.
In the extremely busy summer months, Sunport has around 90 departures/ day.
Since 2008, Sunport has seen a dip of 24 percent in the number of inbound & outbound passengers, said Jiron. In 2008, 6.7M passengers had gone through the airport. Last year, that number had dropped to 5.1 million. The Medium hub airports such as Albuquerque have also suffered very badly over the last few years.
