Nokia (NYSE:NOK) has completed the takeover of Unium, a software company based in Seattle. Unium is engaged in solving the problems in complex wireless networking that can be used in residential Wi-Fi and mission critical applications as well.
Following the takeover, Nokia will embed the software of Unium in its Wi-Fi portfolio and provides the mesh Wi-Fi solution to the operators with a plug and play option. The mesh Wi-Fi solution can be installed with ease in homes and optimized for self-healing and self-learning capabilities. After the merger, Unium will operate as a part of the fixed network business group of Nokia.
Nokia Bell Labs Launches Prize Competition to Invite New Ideas Capable of Fourth Industrial Revolution
Nokia Bell Labs is inviting new ideas from competent persons and institutes in engineering, technology, science and mathematics at its 5th annual global competition. The new ideas provide a clue to developing grounding breaking technologies and solutions for the 4th industrial revolution.
It also provides an opportunity to collaborate with scientists and researchers of Nokia Bell Labs and fine tune the proposals. The participants at the Nokia competition will have a chance to win a prize of up to $175,000 in cash. The cash prize will be shared between the first, second and third place winners in the competition.
The innovators are given time up to April 25, 2018, to submit their proposals and ideas that have a potential to disrupt the technologies and maximize the potential worldwide. The proposals should focus on controlling, sensing and automating everything.
The anticipated 4th industrial revolution is expected to see remarkable improvements in using the intelligent systems that enable connectivity to a myriad of sensors, platforms, robots, and systems on a large scale over a distributed network. It should support ultra-high capacity, ultra-low latency, security and reliability.
The main aim of the new technology and solutions is to minimize the time spent on repetitive tasks. It should pave the way for developing more controlled and automated systems.

The intended competition is to seek ideas and solutions from professionals from a variety of backgrounds, geographies, skills, intellects, and philosophies to support this process.
