The threat of Coronavirus has disturbed the entire economy of China and is now slowly making an impact on the global economy as well. The virus that was first detected in Wuhan City of China has now crossed the borders affecting more than 70 plus countries. But China continues to be the most affected country in the world. That is why the big names in the country’s technology and the corporate world like Alibaba Group Holding Ltd – ADR (NYSE:BABA), Tencent, Baidu, and Huawei have geared up to support efforts for combating the Coronavirus threat.
Tech Giants Working Silently
The technology giants in China have already started working in the healthcare sector using software tools based on Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing. While the big names in the US like Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) have been quite vocal about their efforts, the Chinese companies have decided to work in the background silently. However, now the country’s government wants all its tech giants to team up to combat the outbreak of Coronavirus.
That is why big names like Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei have started using their surveillance capabilities so that the government can track down the victims of this deadly virus and also isolate people who have been in contact with the affected people. Also, these technology giants are trying to amplify the efforts in the healthcare sector by providing necessary tools.
Alibaba introduced Online Clinic Services
The biggest eCommerce platform in China has entered the healthcare sector and introduced online clinic services on its popular Taobao and Alipay apps, especially for users in the province of Hubei, where the Coronavirus first originated. The service allows people to consult doctors online. Now the same service has also been extended for Beijing. The largest search engine platform of China Baidu has also started an online health-consultation platform that offers the service free.
Tencent, too, has started an online consultation platform where people can discuss their health issues with doctors. In contrast, Huawei has developed a tool GrandOmics Biosciences to understand the genetic makeup of Coronavirus.
