Universal Biofuels, a subsidiary of Aemetis Inc (NASDAQ:AMTX), has completed an advanced biodiesel treatment plant construction in India to comply with the supply agreement signed with BP Singapore Pte Limited (BP).
The low cost feed stocks will be processed at the newly constructed plant in India into the good quality distilled biodiesel with low carbon for supply to BP. The Universal Biofuels plant in India uses high free fatty acid waste feed stocks and converts to high quality biodiesel while meeting the international standards.
Aemetis signed a 3 year accord with BP in May 2017 to supply biodiesel to the US and EU from the proposed biodiesel treatment plant in India. The Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, Mr. Eric MacAfee, said the construction of the advanced biodiesel treatment unit is now completed and the company will concentrate on commissioning/ processing of the low cost feed stocks and market good quality biodiesel in the international markets.
The company will begin production in April 2018 with expected inputs of feed stocks and the shipments are expected in Q2 2018 to BP. The Aemetis production plant based in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh has an annual production capacity of fifty million gallons.
It is the only biofuels facility in India to get the nod to supply biofuels to California. The company has also filed a patent application for the process technology in the year 2017.
